RICKIE FOWLER, MAX HOMA AND SAM BURNS LATEST TO JOIN FIELD FOR 2025 WM PHOENIX OPEN

January 23, 2025 by WM Phoenix Open Leave a Comment

Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney announced today three new player commitments to the 2025 WM Phoenix Open field. Former WM Phoenix Open champion Rickie Fowler, six-time PGA TOUR winner Max Homa and World No. 22 Sam Burns will tee it up at TPC Scottsdale February 3-9 for the 90th playing of “The People’s Open.”

“We’re obviously extremely excited to see Rickie, Max and Sam back at ‘The People’s Open’,” Mooney said. “All of these guys are among not only the best players in the world but also are some of the greatest ambassadors of the sport. We can’t wait to see them compete at TPC Scottsdale in February.”

Fowler, a six-time PGA TOUR winner and fan favorite, remains one of the most recognized names in professional golf. Fowler reclaimed the spotlight in 2023 with a victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, marking his first win since capturing the 2019 WM Phoenix Open title. Over his 16 appearances at the WM Phoenix Open, Fowler has demonstrated consistent success highlighted by one win, two runner-up finishes, a fourth-place showing, and seven Top 25 finishes. With career earnings of $3.7 million at the event, he ranks among the Top-3 all-time money winners in tournament history. Fowler has represented the United States on five Ryder Cup teams (2010, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2023) and three Presidents Cup teams (2015, 2017, 2019).

Homa has firmly established himself as one of the premier players on the PGA TOUR, with six career victories since his debut in 2013. Among his standout achievements is his triumph at the 2021 Genesis Invitational, where he captured his first title at Riviera Country Club. A Scottsdale resident, Homa delivered a strong 2024 season, highlighted by three Top-10 finishes and a Top-50 placement in the FedExCup standings, earning him a spot on the 2024 U.S. Presidents Cup team. The 2025 WM Phoenix Open will mark his seventh appearance at the tournament, where his best result came in 2020 with a solo sixth-place finish.  He currently ranks 48th in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Burns has quickly become a rising star on the PGA TOUR, amassing an impressive resume that includes five career victories and a runner-up finish in just the last three years. Among his achievements is a 2023 World Golf Championship Dell Technologies Match Play victory and a successful title defense at the 2022 Valspar Championship. The 2025 WM Phoenix Open will mark his seventh appearance at “The People’s Open” where he has carded one Top-25 and two Top-10 finishes. He currently holds the No. 22 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking.

LARRY FITZGERALD JR., CARLI LLOYD AND KYLE SCHWARBER HEADLINE FIRST COMMITS TO 2025 WM PHOENIX OPEN ANNEXUS PRO-AM

January 21, 2025 by WM Phoenix Open Leave a Comment

Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney announced today Arizona Cardinals all-time leading receiver Larry Fitzgerald Jr., two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Carli Lloyd and World Series champion Kyle Schwarber are among the first list of celebrities to commit to play in the popular Annexus Pro-Am at the WM Phoenix Open on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium Course.

“We’re thrilled to welcome my fellow Thunderbird Larry Fitzgerald, along with Carli Lloyd and Kyle Schwarber to the 2025 Annexus Pro-Am,” Mooney said. “These athletes have reached the pinnacle of their sports, making them the perfect additions to ‘The People’s Open.’ The Annexus Pro-Am is all about bringing together golf, entertainment, and community, and this year’s lineup is shaping up to be one of the most memorable yet.”

“Fitz” has become a household name at “The People’s Open.” The all-time leading receiver for the Arizona Cardinals played 17 seasons in the NFL – all with the Cardinals. Throughout his NFL career, Fitzgerald has been one of the most productive and consistent wide receivers in the league, holding multiple records for receptions, touchdowns, and yards for the Cardinals franchise. Fitzgerald was recognized as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2016, was inducted into the University of Pittsburgh Hall of Fame in 2023, and most recently selected to the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame class. Among Larry’s proudest achievements is establishing and building The Larry Fitzgerald Foundation.

Lloyd’s Hall-of-Fame career is marked by two Olympic gold medals (2008, 2012), two FIFA Women’s World Cup titles (2015, 2019), and back-to-back FIFA Player of the Year honors in 2015 and 2016. A four-time Olympian (2008, 2012, 2016, 2021), Lloyd is perhaps best known for her unforgettable performance in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup final, where she scored a hat-trick within the first 16 minutes, leading the United States to a commanding 5-2 victory over Japan.

With 316 starts for the U.S. Women’s National Team, Lloyd ranks second in international appearances, third in goals (134), and sixth in assists (64). She also spent nine seasons in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), concluding her playing career with NY/NJ Gotham FC, where she is now a minority investor. Lloyd’s upcoming participation in “The People’s Open” marks her third consecutive appearance at the event.

A two-time MLB All-Star, Schwarber has become one of Major League Baseball’s most formidable sluggers. Celebrated for his prodigious power and clutch performances, he played a pivotal role in the Chicago Cubs’ historic 2016 World Series victory. Schwarber made a miraculous return in the Fall Classic, batting .412 and helping the Cubs end their 108-year championship drought.

Schwarber’s career has since been marked by consistent power production. After leaving Chicago following the 2020 season, he had impactful stints with the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022. In 2022, Schwarber led the National League in home runs with 46, earning his second All-Star selection.

January 15, 2025 by WM Phoenix Open Leave a Comment

Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney announced today the WM Phoenix Open has received a new wave of commitments from some of the PGA TOUR’s top players who will tee it up at “The People’s Open” February 3-9 at TPC Scottsdale.  The latest additions include 15-time PGA TOUR winner Justin Thomas, three-time major champion Jordan Spieth and World No. 15 Billy Horschel.

“We are less than 20 days away and already the field for the 2025 WM Phoenix Open is shaping up to be one of the strongest in tournament history,” Mooney said. “The latest round of commitments include some of the bigggest names on the PGA TOUR. We can’t wait to see them out at ‘The People’s Open’ in February.”

Since turning professional in 2013, Thomas has established himself as one of golf’s elite players, amassing 15 PGA TOUR victories including two Major Championship titles at the PGA Championship (2017, 2022), and a FedExCup title in 2017. Thomas has been honored as PGA of America Player of the Year twice (2017, 2020) and was named PGA TOUR Player of the Year for the 2016-17 season. He also led the PGA TOUR in earnings three times (2016-17, 2017-18, 2019-20). Thomas has contributed to three victorious United States Presidents Cup teams (2017, 2019, 2022) and competed in the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome. He held the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings for five weeks in 2018 and is currently ranked No. 21. Returning for his 11th appearance at the WM Phoenix Open, Thomas has delivered strong performances at TPC Scottsdale, including a solo fourth-place finish in 2023 and tying for third in both 2019 and 2020.

Spieth’s legendary career began in 2013 when he earned PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year honors. Just two years later, in 2015, the Texas native delivered one of the greatest seasons in PGA TOUR history, claiming five victories, including two Major titles (Masters and U.S. Open), and the TOUR Championship. That outstanding season earned him a FedExCup title, as well as PGA of America and PGA TOUR Player of the Year honors.

Spieth has also been a cornerstone of U.S. team competitions, contributing to four victorious Presidents Cup teams (2013, 2015, 2017, 2022) and represented the U.S. in five Ryder Cups (2014, 2016, 2018, 2021, 2023. DEFENDING CHAMP NICK TAYLOR, HIDEKI MATSUYAMA AND WYNDHAM CLARK AMONG FIRST COMMITMENTS TO 2025 WM PHOENIX OPEN FIELD

January 9, 2025 by WM Phoenix Open Leave a Comment

Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney announced today the WM Phoenix Open has received early commitments from some of the PGA TOUR’s top players who will tee it up at “The People’s Open” February 3-9 at TPC Scottsdale.  Among the first to commit include defending WM Phoenix Open champion Nick Taylor, two-time WM Phoenix Open winner and 2024 Olympic Silver medalist Hideki Matsuyama, and 2023 U.S. Open Champion Wyndham Clark.

“We’re thrilled to welcome some of the world’s top players to our 2025 field, including two of our former champs Hideki and Nick,” Mooney said. “The WM Phoenix Open prides itself on having one of the most competitive fields on TOUR and these early commitments put us on track to continue that tradition as we gear up for the 90th edition of ‘The People’s Open.’”

A four-time winner on the PGA TOUR, Taylor won last year’s WM Phoenix Open in dramatic fashion besting Charley Hoffman in a two-hole sudden-death playoff. The Canadian standout has been a consistent presence on the PGA TOUR with career-defining wins highlighted by the 2023 RBC Canadian Open – a historic triumph on home soil making him the first Canadian in nearly seven decades to win Canada’s official open championship. Last Summer Taylor proudly represented Canada in Paris in the Olympic Games, further solidifying his role as one of the nation’s most accomplished golfers. He seeks to become the ninth player to win back-to-back WM Phoenix Open titles.

World No. 5 golfer Matsuyama has already started off the 2025 season strong after an extraordinary performance in the TOUR’s season-opener at the Sentry in Maui. The two-time WM Phoenix Open champion made history at Kapalua with the lowest 72-hole score in PGA TOUR history, finishing 35-under par. His incredible career includes 19 worldwide wins, including the 2021 Masters where he became the first Japanese born player to win a Major. A trailblazer for Japanese golf, he has been a fixture in the FedExCup Playoffs, making an impressive 10 TOUR Championship appearances since 2014. The 11-time PGA TOUR winner is one of only eight players to successfully defend his WM Phoenix Open title the following year with back-to-back wins in 2016 and 2017. Matsuyama will vie for his third WM Phoenix Open win in 2025, seeking to become only the fourth player in tournament history to win three times (Arnold Palmer, Gene Littler, Mark Calcavecchia, Phil Mickelson). Along with his two wins at TPC Scottsdale, Matsuyama has a runner-up finish, five Top-10s and eight Top-25 finishes in 11 WM Phoenix Open starts.

A three-time winner on the PGA TOUR, Clark claimed his first two career wins in 2023, winning the Wells Fargo Championship in May, then followed that up with his first major championship win at the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club in June. In 2024 he continued his strong play with a victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to go along with two runner-up outings and eight Top-10s to finish eighth in the final FedExCup rankings.  This will be Clark’s seventh WM Phoenix Open appearance, with his best finish a T-10 in 2023.  He currently ranks No. 7 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
