LUKE CLANTON, CHEZ REAVIE & KEVIN STREELMAN RECEIVE FINAL SPONSOR EXEMPTIONS FOR 2025 WM PHOENIX OPEN

January 29, 2025 by WM Phoenix Open Leave a Comment

Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney announced today that Luke Clanton, Chez Reavie and Kevin Streelman have been awarded the final three sponsor exemptions for the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, scheduled to be played February 3–9 at TPC Scottsdale. This trio will join ASU’s Josele Ballester and Frankie Capan III as the five sponsor exemptions for the 90th edition of “The People’s Open”.

“Sponsor exemptions represent an exciting opportunity for us to highlight a mix of rising stars and established players at ‘The People’s Open’,” Mooney said. “Welcoming Luke, the top-ranked amateur in the world who is on the verge of earning his PGA TOUR card is an amazing story. And with two long-time veterans in Valley native and ASU favorite Chez Reavie, and valley resident Kevin Streelman we are adding depth and experience to this year’s field with two guys who have contributed greatly to our event.”

Currently the world’s No. 1 amateur golfer, Clanton is a standout at Florida State University and a rising talent in the game. Clanton earned attention with a T15 finish at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Championship last week and two runner-up finishes in 2024 at the John Deere Classic and RSM Classic. Currently ranked inside the Top-100 in the Official World Golf Ranking (91st), Clanton’s strong performances signal a bright future for the 21-year-old from Hialeah, Florida. This will be Clanton’s debut at the WM Phoenix Open.

Reavie, a three-time PGA TOUR winner and Arizona native, has been a consistent presence on the PGA TOUR for more than two decades. Reavie’s career highlights include victories at the 2008 RBC Canadian Open, the 2019 Travelers Championship, and the 2022 Barracuda Championship. In 2024, Reavie recorded two Top-15 finishes and continues to compete at a high level. A former Arizona State Sun Devil, Reavie has enjoyed success at the WM Phoenix Open that includes a runner-up finish in 2018 and a T4 in 2019. This will mark Reavie’s 17th appearance at the tournament.

Streelman is a two-time PGA TOUR winner and veteran competitor with a career spanning more than 17 seasons. He earned his first PGA TOUR victory at the 2007 Tampa Bay Championship and added another at the 2014 Travelers Championship. In 2024, he secured a Top-3 finish at the inaugural Black Desert Championship and a Top-25 at the World Wide Technology Championship. Streelman is off to a strong start in 2025, with a T15 finish at the Farmers Insurance Championship. This will be Streelman’s 17th WM Phoenix Open appearance, with his best finish coming in 2021 (T22).

WORLD NO. 1 SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER, NO. 15 SAHITH THEEGALA AMONG THE LATEST TO COMMIT TO “THE PEOPLE’S OPEN”

January 28, 2025 by WM Phoenix Open Leave a Comment

Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney announced today World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and World No. 15 Sahith Theegala have committed to the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, scheduled to tee it up February 3-9 at TPC Scottsdale. The two PGA TOUR stars return to “The People’s Open” as part of the tournament’s 90th edition, adding to an already stellar field.

“We’re thrilled to welcome back Scottie, a two-time WM Phoenix Open champion, and Sahith, whose standout debut in 2022 made him an instant fan favorite,” Mooney said. “Both players bring an incredible level of talent and excitement to the tournament, and we’re looking forward to seeing them compete at TPC Scottsdale.”

Scheffler has 13 career PGA TOUR victories, including wins at the Masters Tournament in 2022 and 2024. He also won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics and claimed back-to-back titles at the PLAYERS Championship in 2023 and 2024. Scheffler finished the 2024 season with seven victories, two runner-up finishes, and 17 Top-25s in 19 starts, earning his third consecutive PGA TOUR Player of the Year award. He also captured the FedExCup title in 2024 and has represented Team USA in multiple international competitions, including the 2024 Presidents Cup. This will be Scheffler’s sixth appearance at the WM Phoenix Open, where he won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023.

Theegala earned his first PGA TOUR win at the 2023 Fortinet Championship and recorded two runner-up finishes, nine Top-10s and 12 Top-25s during the 2024 season. A three-time NCAA All-American at Pepperdine University, Theegala also won the Haskins and Ben Hogan Awards in 2020 as the nation’s top collegiate golfer. He first appeared at the WM Phoenix Open in 2022 as a sponsor exemption, finishing tied for third.   This will be his fourth start at TPC Scottsdale.

The field now includes 12 of the Top-25 and 30 of the Top-50 ranked players in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), along with seven Major champions, and five WM Phoenix Open champions. The five former champs in the field include Nick Taylor (2024), Scottie Scheffler (2022, 2023), Rickie Fowler (2019), Gary Woodland (2018), and Hideki Matsuyama (2016, 2017).

CORBIN BURNES, ZAC GALLEN & TOREY LOVULLO LEAD SECOND ROUND OF COMMITS FOR 2025 WM PHOENIX OPEN ANNEXUS PRO-AM

January 28, 2025 by WM Phoenix Open Leave a Comment

Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney announced today Arizona Diamondbacks superstars Corbin Burnes and Zac Gallen, along with manager Torey Lovullo, are among the latest professional athletes and celebrities confirmed to play in the popular Annexus Pro-Am at the 2025 WM Phoenix Open. The event will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium Course.

“The Thunderbirds are so grateful for our close relationship with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and our fans are always so excited to come out and cheer them on. This year, we’re thrilled to have Zac, Corbin and Torey join the pro-am lineup,” Mooney said.  “Zac and Torey have played before so they have an idea what to expect, but we’re looking forward to watching Corbin handle the 16th hole for the first time.”

A two-time MLB All-Star and the 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner, Burnes was acquired by the Arizona Diamondbacks via free agency ahead of the 2025 season, solidifying the team’s pitching rotation. Over his career, Burnes has compiled an impressive 3.21 ERA with more than 1,000 strikeouts in just six full MLB seasons. His standout 2021 campaign saw him lead the National League in ERA, and he followed that with a league-leading strikeout total in 2022. Burnes will be making his debut at the Annexus Pro-Am.

A 2023 MLB All-Star, Gallen has been a key piece of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ rotation since joining the team in 2019. Known for his consistency, Gallen has posted a career ERA of 3.17 while surpassing 800 strikeouts in just five seasons. His 2023 campaign featured career highs in wins and innings pitched, helping lead the Diamondbacks to a memorable postseason run. Gallen will make his third appearance at the Annexus Pro-Am.

Lovullo has managed the Arizona Diamondbacks since November 2016, making him the longest-tenured manager in franchise history. During his time with the team, he has overseen multiple competitive seasons, including a playoff berth in his first year, which earned him National League Manager of the Year honors in 2017. In 2023, he guided the Diamondbacks to a World Series appearance, highlighted by a sweep of the Dodgers in the NLDS. Before his managerial career, Lovullo played eight seasons in Major League Baseball as an infielder for teams such as the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees and served as the bench coach for the Boston Red Sox. Lovullo will make his second appearance at the Annexus Pro-Am.

ARIZONA HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPION FRANKIE CAPAN III RECEIVES SECOND SPONSOR EXEMPTION FOR 2025 WM PHOENIX OPEN

January 26, 2025 by WM Phoenix Open Leave a Comment

Tournament Chairman Matt Mooney announced today PGA TOUR rookie and Arizona High School State Champion Frankie Capan III will receive the second of five sponsor exemptions for the 2025 WM Phoenix Open, scheduled for February 3–9 at TPC Scottsdale. The Florida Gulf Coast and Alabama Crimson Tide alum clinched a Top-30 spot on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Points List to earn his 2025 PGA TOUR card.

“We are beyond excited to welcome Frankie Capan III back to the Valley as a sponsor exemption to the 2025 WM Phoenix Open,” Mooney said.  “Frankie’s journey from winning back-to-back Arizona High School State Championships right here in Phoenix to earning his PGA TOUR card with standout performances is truly incredible. His recent T12 finish at The American Express shows he’s ready to compete at the highest level, and we can’t wait to see him take on the field at TPC Scottsdale.”

Capan III earned his PGA TOUR card by finishing third on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour points list, highlighted by a KFT playoff victory at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. He closed that event with a stellar performance, securing a two-shot win and cementing his spot among the Korn Ferry Tour’s top graduates. Earlier in the 2024 season, Capan III etched his name in history by shooting a 13-under 58 at the Veritex Bank Championship, setting a course record and tying the second-lowest round ever on the Korn Ferry Tour. His consistent play throughout the KFT season included 11 Top-25 finishes.

Capan III’s path to the PGA TOUR began with a standout amateur and collegiate career. After his back-to-back Arizona High School State Championships at Northwest Christian School in Phoenix (shot 59 in the final round to clinch his second title), he played his freshman year at the University of Alabama before transferring to Florida Gulf Coast University. As an amateur, Capan III gained recognition by winning the 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship alongside Shuai Ming Wong.

Capan III currently ranks 42nd in the FedExCup standings thanks to his T12 at The American Express in La Quinta. The Junior Golf Association of Arizona alum served as a standard bearer during the 2012 WM Phoenix Open and will be making his first playing appearance at “The People’s Open.”

The Thunderbirds and WM have a total of five exemptions to award for the 2025 WM Phoenix Open. The remaining three exemptions will be announced leading up to the tournament.

Tiësto is a pillar in electronic music and an artist that transcends beyond that – Tiësto is an experience. When you hear the name and hear his signature sound on the dance floor, you know you’re about to have the best night of your life. Throughout his unparalleled career, the GRAMMY® Award-winning, Platinum-certified, international icon has brought electronic music to the masses, first rising out of the underground scene to become one of the biggest and most influential DJ/producers of all time. He’s played the mainstage of every major international dance music festival and created the template for Las Vegas DJ residencies.

Meanwhile, he’s sold more than 36M albums, clocked six Billboard “Hot 100” hits and aggregated an incredible 11B+ worldwide streams. But the truth is, Tiësto is just now getting started. A leading figure of the global Dance Music movement, he helped forge the bridge between electronic and pop, evolving the sound of mainstream music itself in the process. The artist born Tijs Verwest has found a particular sweet spot in this crossover realm, gaining critical acclaim and millions of new fans with a litany of hits. His new LP, Drive, finds the artist at the height of his powers. Named for the perpetual momentum of his career and the physical movement his work continues to inspire, Drive makes the thrill of the dance floor available whenever, and wherever, listeners turn it on.

GORDO is a new house music alias from the artist previously known as Carnage. More than that, it is a new way of life and a new way of thinking for Diamanté. With this renewed sense of energy comes his essential new house sound. It is a passionate, heartfelt new beginning for GORDO that will redefine house music for the next generation.

Off to a quick start, his world tour has seen him perform at iconic venues such as Hï Ibiza, Green Valley, Shalvata Tel Aviv, Lollapalooza, Fiction Canberra, Savaya Bali, and more. Meanwhile, GORDO continues to curate his own event series; TARAKA, a brand which has been taking over the world, popping up in places like San Francisco, Miami, Tulum, Mykonos, Medellin, Amsterdam, Acapulco, New York, Bulgaria, and Detroit.

His quest for this new sound has led to releases such as ‘KTM’, which became an instant Top 10 hit on the Beatport Main Chart, TARAKA, which was named after his own event series, the techno-infused speaker-rattling ‘Leaving Earth’ with KAS:ST, the widely acclaimed ‘RIZZLA’; GORDO’s first release with The Martinez Brothers, and house anthem ‘R U 4REAL’. Diamanté solidified his name as GORDO as he broke ground with 6 production on Drake’s latest dance-infused album ‘Honestly Nevermind’ and got crowned #1 producer on Billboard’s Hot 100 producers and #1 Hispanic DJ in the DJ Mag Top 100.
