As 2018 Waste Management Phoenix Open Champion Gary Woodland was coming down the stretch of his 2019 U.S. Open victory at Pebble beach, he had a fan – and a friend – by his side.

Amy Bockerstette and Woodland have been friends since their special encounter at the 2019 WM Phoenix Open where they played the famed 16th hole together. After Woodland’s win at Pebble Beach, they sat down together on NBC’s The TODAY show to talk about life, their friendship and Amy’s “you can do this” attitude that’s taking the nation by storm.

“We had a special day there in Phoenix and it’s blossomed from there, but the world needs a lot more of Amy,” said Woodland on TODAY. “Her attitude, her energy is contagious. I thought a lot about you (speaking to Amy) on Sunday. I think a lot about you every day, so thank you.”
