20th Playing of The Thunderbird International Junior
The Thunderbirds celebrated yet another milestone over the Memorial Day weekend with the 20th playing of the Thunderbird International Jr. where the world’s best junior golfers gather at Grayhawk Golf Club to compete in what has grown into one of the most prestigious junior golf tournaments in the world.
The event has become a steppingstone for elite players, with notable past champions such as Ryan Moore, Brian Harman, Morgan Pressel and Ariya Jutanugarn. Other PGA TOUR and LPGA stars have also competed in the event like Paula Creamer, 2019 WM Phoenix Open Champion Rickie Fowler, Brittany Lincicome, Webb Simpson, 2010 WM Phoenix Open Champion Hunter Mahan, Lexi Thompson and 2012 WM Phoenix Open Champion Kyle Stanley.
This year’s final round of the Thunderbird International Junior concluded with two first-time invitational champions. William Mouw of Chino, California, went wire-to-wire to win his second tournament in the past month. Alexa Melton of Covina, California, came from behind to win in the Girls Division.
