Congratulations to Vanderbilt University sophomore Tillie Claggett and University of Florida junior Ian Gilligan for taking home victories in the 2023 Patriot All-America at Wigwam Golf Club over the weekend.

Claggett fired a Patriot All-America Women’s Division record -9 (61) in Sunday’s final round to capture the prestigious Folded Flag trophy and Bomber Jacket at 12-under par, while Gilligan capped off a wire-to-wire Men’s Division win with a -final round 2-under par 68 to finish 12-under for the tournament as well.

Brigham Young University freshman Cooper Jones also went wire-to-wire to win the 2023 Thunderbolt at Sterling Grove Golf + Country Club in Surprise, firing a -4 (68) in the final round to finish at -16 overall (200).

The Thunderbirds were once again a major sponsor of the Patriot All-America Invitational, a unique event that features PING All-Americans from the previous season in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA; as well as 2022 First Team All-America Seniors from the AJGA and other special invitees. The 54-hole amateur event is known as the first of its kind to combine the talents of 150 nationally recognized men and women golfers simultaneously at one tournament.

The Patriot All-America honors fallen or severely wounded soldiers and first responders in collaboration with the Folds of Honor Foundation. The golfers receive a golf bag provided by PING Corporation at the event’s opening ceremony emblazoned with the name and branch of service of a fallen or injured military member whom they shall represent. Participants also receive a card with the soldier’s story so they can become familiar with that soldier. The golf bags are then sold by the players’ college or university with proceeds donated to Folds of Honor to support the families affected. Thunderbolt players will also represent Folds of Honor soldiers and First Responders with biographies on cards attached to their bags.

Named after the Air Force P-47 Thunderbolt, The Thunderbolt has been added to accommodate those players that met the initial eligibility but did not make it into The Patriot. The Thunderbolt consists of players who are ranked in the top 1000 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), are PING Second, Third and Honorable Mention All-Americans from Divisions II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA, or are AJGA Second Team and Honorable Mention All-Americans. An invitation to The Thunderbolt does not preclude a player from later receiving an invitation to The Patriot, and all golfers in the Thunderbolt field will be added to the alternate list for The Patriot.

Tournament Chairman George Thimsen announced today the WM Phoenix Open presented by Taylor Morrison has added two new VIP venues to its long list of tournament hospitality options, unveiling the new DraftKings Sportsbook – adjacent to the tournament entrance – and Nine, an upgraded VIP viewing venue overlooking the ninth green at TPC Scottsdale. Located near the new tournament entrance, The DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale will be a premier “19th Hole” experience for golf fans during the 2024 WM Phoenix Open with elevated food and beverage options, 32 betting kiosks, six live-betting windows, and 2,700 square feet of video walls all within a spacious, custom-designed interior.

Two daily ticket options are available for the new DraftKings Sportsbook venue – the DraftKings 19^th Hole ticket and the DraftKings 19^th Hole VIP ticket.

The 19^th Hole ticket prices are $300 each on Wednesday-Thursday and $350 each on Friday-Saturday, and allows access to the venue from 1 p.m. – 9 p.m. with complimentary food and open bar, plus admission to The After Party.

The lineup for the 2024 Coors Light Birds Nest has added a familiar face as officials confirmed that internationally acclaimed DJ and music producer Kygo will be performing at the popular four-night concert series, which will take place Feb. 7-10 during WM Phoenix Open week.  Kygo will wrap up the final night of the concert series, taking the stage on Saturday, Feb. 10 with Special Guest Sam Feldt.  This will be Kygo’s third performance at the Coors Light Birds Nest, his first two appearances came in 2020 and 2022.

– Tournament Chairman George Thimsen announced today the WM Phoenix Open presented by Taylor Morrison has already received early commitments from some of the top PGA TOUR players who will tee it up at “The People’s Open” February 5-11 at TPC Scottsdale.  Among the first to commit include back-to-back WM Phoenix Open champion Scottie Scheffler, World No. 10 and reigning U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, and 15-time PGA TOUR winner Justin Thomas.

“We are excited to see a few of the world’s best players as early additions to our 2024 field including two-time defending champion, Scottie Scheffler,” said 2024 Tournament Chairman George Thimsen. “The WM Phoenix Open always showcases a great field, and we expect nothing different this year as we get closer to the 89^th edition of ‘The People’s Open.’”

Scheffler has his eyes set on making history and becoming just the second player to accomplish three-consecutive victories at the WM Phoenix Open since Arnold Palmer (1961-1963). The current world No. 1 had an outstanding 2023 season with two victories, two runner ups and 21 top-25 finishes in 23 starts. He became the third player with multiple victories on the 2022-2023 season after his win at The Players Championship and was a multi-winner on TOUR for the second consecutive season.

Known for his pure ball striking skills and accuracy, the former Texas Longhorn did not miss a cut last season and ended the year T6 in the FedEx Cup standings. Scheffler was the PGA TOUR’s leading money winner in 2023 and represented Team USA in Rome for the 2023 Ryder Cup. Scheffler is already back to his winning ways in the 2024 PGA TOUR season with a win at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. This will be Scheffler’s fifth appearance at “The Peoples Open.”

Clark joined the winner’s circle multiple times in 2023, earning his first PGA TOUR victory at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte and then his first major title at the U.S. Open in Los Angeles. His monumental victories, in addition to his eight top-10 finishes this season, put Clark at No. 3 in the FedEx Cup standings. This will be Clark’s sixth WM Phoenix Open appearance, with his best finish a T10 last year at TPC Scottsdale.

Since turning professional in 2013, Justin Thomas has put together 15 PGA TOUR victories, two Major Championship titles (2017, 2022 PGA Championships) and a FedEx Cup title (2017). Thomas was named the PGA of America Player of the Year twice (2017, 2020), the PGA TOUR Player of the Year in the 2016-2017 wrap-around season, and three times led the PGA TOUR in earnings (2016-17, 2017-18, 2019-20). Thomas has represented the United States on three victorious Presidents Cup teams (2017, 2019, 2022) and represented Team USA over the summer at the Ryder Cup in Rome. Thomas held the No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings for five weeks in 2018 and is currently ranked No. 26 in the world. This will be Thomas’ 10th appearance at the WM Phoenix Open – he finished solo fourth in 2023 and turned in his best performances (T3) in 2019 and 2020.

PGA TOUR members have until 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb 2, to commit to play in the WM Phoenix Open. Eligible players are assigned one of 34 PGA TOUR priority ranking categories based on their past performance on TOUR. The field will continue to change as players with higher priority rankings commit to play in the Open.
