Tuesday at the Waste Management Phoenix Open is always a special day for the children of the Valley. More than 600 kids from local elementary schools were given the opportunity to skip class and participate in the R.S. Hoyt Jr. Family Foundation Dream Day benefiting The First Tee of Phoenix, where they would get to meet local sports legends and mascots and learn about the great game of golf from some of the best Arizona sports have to offer. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Archie Bradley and Former Arizona Coyotes Captain Shane Doan joined PGA TOUR star Matt Wolff on the TPC Scottsdale Champions Course practice range to share their love of the game and stories about confidence and perseverance. After the athletes spoke, the kids were treated to a dazzling trick shot show.The beautiful Scottsdale day was one these kids won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
The festivities continued later in the afternoon, where community leaders and celebrities joined the PGA TOUR’s best and Valley team mascots in the annual San Tan Ford Special Olympics Putting Challenge
Tee times for the Annexus Pro-Am hosted Wednesday morning will be posted Tuesday night at www.wmphoenixopen.com. Some of the celebrities taking part in the festivities include Hall of Fame football player Emmitt Smith, former Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith, Godlen Tate, Reggie Bush and the most decorated Olympian of all time Michael Phelps, along with those who attended the events this morning and others.
Wednesday afternoon, don’t forget to stick around for the Phoenix Suns Charity Shot at Glory – a unique closest-to-the-pin contest at the iconic 16th hole – where a slew of high profile personalities will compete for a chance to win $1 million towards a charity of their choice.
When the Wednesday action at TPC Scottdale ends, things get going across the street with Miranda Lambert and Cody Johnson kicking off the first night of the Coors Light Birds Nest, the popular four-night concert series Wednesday through Saturday during tournament week.
