Recap Of Tuesday’s Events At The Waste Management Phoenix Open
R.S. Hoyt Jr. Family Foundation Dream Day
The First Tee of Phoenix and the Junior Golf Association of Arizona were out on TPC Scottsdale’s Champions Course Tuesday for the R.S. Hoyt Jr. Family Foundation Dream Day. PGA TOUR professional and First Tee product, Erik Compton, was on hand to hit a few shots for more than 400 kids and also told his incredible story of perseverance – becoming a PGA TOUR player despite two heart transplants.
Also hitting a few balls on the Champions Course driving range was a fully functional golfing robot named Eldrick, who was capable of duplicating any golf shot. CBS Golf commentator, Gary McCord, provided a bit of humor by speaking through the robot, much to the delight of the children in attendance.
After the shot exhibition, the kids broke into groups for The First Tee of Phoenix chipping and putting programming. Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher, Josh Collmenter, rounded out the event with a brief speech about what he’s learned about being a good person, and how athletics can help teach life lessons that will help kids in their lives on, and off the course.
Birdies for the Brave Operation® Shower Presented by Pro Em
On Tuesday, February 2nd, during the 2016 Waste Management Phoenix Open, thirty-five military moms-to-be from Luke Air Force Base and the Arizona National Guard were honored during an Operation Shower group baby shower in Birdies for the Brave Patriots’ Outpost presented by PRO EM. The moms were either active duty themselves, or the spouse of a deployed or active duty service member. In addition to lunch, each of the honored moms received Operation Shower’s signature “Shower In A Box” – a gift of high-quality products for mothers and babies that have been donated by companies including USAA and 4Moms.
