Andrew Magee – Back on 17 at WM Phoenix Open
Back before new metals and space-age polymers turned golf clubs into launch pads for pin-seeking missiles, the par-4 17th hole of TPC Scottsdale was well-protected from eagle-bound tee shots. At 332 yards, players would need a miracle off the tee to reach the green in one during tournament play at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. It’s since changed, but during Thursday’s first round of the 2001 contest – with the help of the first editions of the three-piece golf ball and a fellow competitor’s putter, Andrew Magee received one of the great gifts from the golf gods: a par-4 ace.
We’ll let Andrew tell you the story as he tries to recreate his amazing moment.
