VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MORGAN SEXTON
Where are you from and where do you currently live?
I grew up in Kentucky, lived in Phoenix for 10 years, and currently reside back in Kentucky, while still traveling to Arizona throughout the year to volunteer.
How many years have you volunteered for the WM Phoenix Open?
This will be my 11th year volunteering.
Have you volunteered in the same role or different capacities?
I’ve always volunteered with the concessions team in various capacities.
What is your favorite memory as a volunteer at the WM Phoenix Open?
Walking the course each year and seeing how the tournament has grown — from new venues to expanded layouts — while knowing that growth helps raise more funds for local charities.
Why should people volunteer at the WM Phoenix Open?
It’s fun, the weather is great, and it’s not your typical golf tournament. There’s truly something for everyone.
What makes the WM Phoenix Open different from other volunteer opportunities?
You have the freedom to tailor your experience, whether you prefer a slower pace early in the week or the energy of large crowds later on.
Have you met PGA TOUR pros or celebrities from your time as a volunteer?
No celebrities, but I once got to touch the tournament trophy in the volunteer tent — which feels close enough!
What keeps you coming back to volunteer?
The people. Even if we only see each other one week a year, the friendships make it special.
What is the best part about volunteering at the WM Phoenix Open?
The community impact. Concessions generate significant funding for local charities, and the tournament’s economic impact is unmatched.
Wildest moment as a volunteer at the tournament?
Being on a hole when a hole-in-one happens — pure chance, but unforgettable.
Has volunteering led to lifelong friendships?
Yes. I’ve built strong friendships that extend well beyond tournament week.
