Second Round Recap: Sponsor Exemption Theegala leads going into Saturday
The sun has set on the second round of the 2022 WM Phoenix Open and Sahith Theegala is the leader in the clubhouse – officially this time – after a warm and fun-filled day at TPC Scottsdale. Theegala led after play was suspended due to darkness on Thursday, but bogeyed his final two holes after play resumed Friday morning making K.H. Lee the official leader after round one. Theegala is out in front at 12-under par after firing a 7-under 64. But heading into the weekend with a two-stroke lead, Theegala will look to keep this pace and fend off potential challengers, including several PGA TOUR superstars lurking just behind.
Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele sit just behind Theegala tied at 10 under. “The People’s Open” defending champion Koepka posted his second-straight 66, carding six birdies and a lone bogey. Schauffele came to 10-under par one shot better for the day with a bogey-free 65. World No. 4 Patrick Cantlay is fourth on the leaderboard at nine under making up for two bogeys on the front nine with a nearly 20-foot Eagle putt on 15 and five birdies.
The remaining 63 PGA TOUR players who made the cut at two under will regroup for Saturday’s third round starting at 9:44 a.m. You can find the pairings here:
